  For my big blog post, I chose to select Hip Hop. In this first section, I will discuss the history of the American root genre.  Hip-hop originated in the Bronx, New York City, in the 1970s. The exact date and place of the birth are heavily conversationally debated. It started as a cultural movement with various elements, including music, dance, art, and fashion. Some early hip-hop pioneers are Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa . Hip-hop has evolved tremendously and spread globally, becoming one of the top significant and influential genres in music and entertainment . Some common instruments and elements involved in hip-hop include drum machine which helps produce the beats, and Turntables which helps DJs scratch and manipulate vinyl records, creating very distinctive sounds and effects. I listen to hip-hop/rap every day and I have noticed some things that differ between the men and women side. On the men's side, there's usually one out of the three elements present: drugs, sex, and killing. These components I mentioned are not hip-hop or rap, but what is shown to express that this is a lifestyle worth attaining. Some examples of rappers that share these same elements within their music are Key Glock, Real Boston, Richey, LUCKI, etc. These are rappers I will probably listen to in two hours however, the point I want to make is these are the differences I noticed. Below I will share a video from rapper Real Boston Richey. For the women's side or hip-hop/Rap, I have noticed their approach is different. Their lyrics are mainly composed of talking about their bodies or sexual references.
